Description

Russian Roulette anyone..?

This is a 1927-dated Russian Nagant M1895 seven-shot, double-acting revolver. It was produced for Tsarist Russia and saw continued service in the Soviet Union, though it is a weapon of Belgian design and was first introduced in the year it's name suggests.
The Nagant became well known for it's reliability along with it's distinctive name and image, although it was the way in which the revolver functioned (and the rounds it fired) that made it unique.
When most revolvers are fired, gasses that assist in the propulsion of the bullet escape through the gap between the cylinder and the barrel that allows the cylinder to revolve. However, when the Nagant is cocked, the cylinder moves forward to seal this gap, preventing the escape of gasses and theoretically increasing projectile velocity. The 7.62x38 round is designed to further improve this feature, with the bullet seated deep into the casing, which expands and forms a seal with the barrel opening upon firing.
As well as the gun's infamous legacy of Russian Roulette, the Nagant revolver was used in the brutal execution of the Tsarist Romanov family...
